What is a jellyfish?
Jellyfish live in the sea and look a little like umbrellas. They can be found in all the oceans. Jellyfish were around long before the dinosaurs and have been in the oceans for millions of years.

Jellyfish are not strong swimmers. They have no brain but some types have eyes. Jellyfish are invertebrates (animals without backbones). They also don’t have a heart or blood. Jellyfish are 95% water.

What do jellyfish eat?
Jellyfish eat lots of different things, such as small plants, fish, shrimp, crab, and plankton. Plankton are small, floating creatures. Sea turtles like to feed on jellyfish.

Most jellyfish only live less than one year, and some of the smallest live for only a few days. A group of jellyfish is called a swarm or a smack.
