What is a half?
½ is another way of saying half.
When we half a number we divide it by 2.
Example:
½ of 12 = 6 This is the same as saying 12 divided by 2
½ of 8 = 4 This is the same as saying 8 divided by 2
What is a quarter?
¼ is another way of saying a quarter.
To find one-quarter of a number we divide it by 4.
Example:
¼ of 12 = 3 This is the same as saying 12 divided 4
¼ of 8 = 2 This is the same as saying 8 divided by 4
