What is a third?
⅓ is another way of saying a third.
To find one-third of a number we divide it by 3.
Example:
⅓ of 12 = 4 This is the same as saying 12 divided by 3
⅓ of 9 = 3 This is the same as saying 9 divided by 3
What is a quarter?
¼ is another way of saying a quarter.
To find one-quarter of a number we divide it by 4.
Example:
¼ of 12 = 3 This is the same as saying 12 divided 4
¼ of 8 = 2 This is the same as saying 8 divided by 4
