Russia is a country that is mostly in Asia and partly in Eastern Europe. It’s the biggest country in the world and more than 142 million people live there!

The capital city is called Moscow and the official language is Russian. Russia is home to many different animals like Siberian tigers, Russian boar, brown bear and Roe deer.

The Volga River is the longest river in Russia and Europe. The highest point in Russia is Mount Elbrus.

 

What is Russia like?

Because of its size, Russia’s landscape is very diverse. It has freezing cold tundra, mountains, forests and large areas of flat grassland called steppes. The country is known for being cold and it gets a lot of snowfall. There is a large mountain range that goes all the way from the Arctic Ocean to the Caspian Sea, it’s called The Ural Mountains.

 

Major cities

Moscow - known for its architecture and historical buildings like the colourful Saint Basil’s Cathedral. The city is one of the greenest capitals in the world with plenty of forest area.

Saint Petersburg - is home to one of the largest art museums in the world, The State Hermitage Museum. 

Novosibirsk - is a city with a children’s railway. It is used every day in summer except on Mondays.
