This is what you've learnt so far:

The clock is divided into 12 sections. Each section has 5 minutes. Count the five lines in each section.
Everything on the right side of the clock is past. That means it has passed o'clock.
Everything on the left side of the clock is to. That means it is closer to o'clock.
Let's look at some examples:
It is ten to 6. That means there are 10 minutes before it is 6 o'clock.
It is twenty to 12. That means there are 20 minutes before it is 12 o'clock.
It is ten past 10. That means 10 minutes have passed since it was 10 o'clock.
