What is the mean?

The mean is the average of a set of numbers.

To calculate the mean we have to add the numbers together and divide by how many numbers there are.

 

Example:

What is the mean of 2, 4, 5 and 7?

Step 1: Add the numbers together: 2 + 3 + 5 + 6 = 16

Step 2: Divide 16 by how many numbers we added together (4): 16 Ă· 4 = 4

The mean is 4.
