Multiplying decimals by 10
When we multiply decimal numbers by 10 we move the decimal point one space to the right.
Example:
4.5678 Ă— 10 = 45.678
Multiplying decimals by 100
When we multiply decimal numbers by 100 we move the decimal point two spaces to the right.
Example:
4.5678 Ă— 100 = 456.78
Multiplying decimals by 1000
When we multiply decimal numbers by 1000 we move the decimal point three spaces to the right.
Example:
4.5678 Ă— 1000 = 4567.8
Do you see how the number of spaces we move the decimal point is the same as the amount of zeros? 10 has 1 zero, 100 has 2 zeros and 1000 has 3 zeros.
