How do we measure capacity?

When we measure liquids, we usually measure in millilitres (ml) and litres (L).

The big bottle holds 1000 ml.

The small bottle holds 500 ml.

The cup holds 100 ml.

Together, they hold: 1000 ml + 500 ml + 100 ml = 1600 ml

Example 1:

20 ml + 15 ml = 35 ml

Example 2: 

80 L − 55 L = 25 L
