How do we weigh objects?
Weight is how heavy something is. Weight is usually measured in grams (g) and kilograms (kg).
Smaller objects are normally weighed in g.
Larger objects are normally weighed in kg.
1 kilogram (kg) is the same as 1000 grams.
- 2 kg = 2000 g
- 2.5 kg = 2500 g
An easy way to convert from kilograms to grams is to multiply the number by 1000.
4 kg to g: 4 kg x 1000 = 4000 g
To convert from grams to kilograms we divide the number by 1000.
5000 g to kg: 5000 g ÷ 1000 = 5 kg
The bag weighs 1 kg.
The book weighs 300 g.
1 kg is more than 300 g.
The bag is heavier than the book.
