How to round decimals to the nearest whole number

To round a number to the nearest whole number, you have to look at the first digit after the decimal point.

If we have the number 7.3 we know it’s in between the number 7 and number 8. 

7.3 is closer to 7 than 8.

7   7.1   7.2   7.3   7.4   7.5   7.6   7.7   7.8   7.9   8

That means the closest whole number to 7.3 is 7

What happens when the number is in the middle like 7.5? 

If the number after the decimal point is 5 or more, it is rounded up to the next whole number. 

7.5 would be rounded up to 8
