What is a suffix?

Suffixes are little words added to the end of a word like -ment, -ness, -sion, etc.

The suffix -sion is used to describe a state or quality of something.

divide + sion = division

invade + sion = invasion

confuse + sion = confusion

Remember these rules:

If the word ends in 'de', we drop the 'de' before adding the suffix -sion.

If the word ends in 'se', we drop the 'se' before adding the suffix -sion.
